Measuring the Oceans from Space

the Principles and Methods of Satellite Oceanography

I.S. Robinson

Measuring the Oceans from Space The author’s first book, Satellite Oceanography, is an internationally recognised text, which has now been completely updated and revised to provide a comprehensive review of methodologies, modelling techniques, instrumentation and applications. The number and variety of oceanographic applications of remote sensing data have grown significantly in the last 15 years, and there are many more examples of new and interesting areas of science, all of which are detailed in this definitive text.

Measuring the Oceans from Space provides grounding in the fundamental principles of, and information about, the most up-to-date methods and instrumentation enables oceanographers to determine the relevance of remote sensing techniques for their particular field of marine research provides the remote sensing technologists with an up-to-date review of the impact of satellite data on oceanographic science focuses on climate and climate change and air-sea interaction, modelling forecasting and prediction of the ocean.

This book is the result of 18 years teaching and research into physical oceanography and will be essential reference for researchers and students of ocean science and earth observation technology.

Readership: Oceanographers and sensor technologists in field work, research, teaching or study, and marine scientists and engineers. Environmental scientists, marine geologists, space scientists, photogrammetrical scientists and applied physicists.
